Veterans and PTSD Legislation

In 2023, 6,398 American veterans died by suicide. That is more than 17 every day. PTSD is one of the risk factors behind those numbers. The therapies available today help many people, and they fail many others. Veterans have been saying so for years. In Lansing, one bill would give some of them another option.

About Plant Medicine

Ayahuasca

A brew of two plants from the Amazon basin, neither of which does much on its own. Used ceremonially for far longer than anyone outside the region has had a name for it.

Cannabis

Legal to buy in Michigan since 2018, and still illegal under federal law. More than a hundred cannabinoids, two of them studied far more than the rest.

Kambo

Not a psychedelic, and the one here that asks most of the body. A frog secretion applied to small burns on the skin, where heavy vomiting is the ordinary response rather than a sign something has gone wrong.

Psilocybin

The compound in more than two hundred species of mushroom, and the subject of more research right now than anything else on this list. It is also what Ann Arbor's 2020 resolution was mostly about.
